Abstract

This article examines how national values are expressed in Uzbek folklore and how they should be interpreted under changing historical and ethical conditions. It argues that folklore preserves not only universal moral ideas but also culturally specific value patterns shaped within society. Using a qualitative and comparative approach, the study analyzes Uzbek proverbs and fairy tales and identifies three key axiological constants: communal solidarity, respect for learning and craftsmanship, and reliance on intellect and prudent judgment. At the same time, it shows that some inherited proverbs may support conformity, dishonesty, or
opportunism. Therefore, folklore should be viewed both as cultural heritage and as a subject of critical moral reflection.
