Abstract

Motivation is widely recognized as one of the most decisive factors in the process of learning a new language, particularly English, which functions as a global lingua franca in education, business, science, and intercultural communication
(Dörnyei, 2001). This article explores the multifaceted role of motivation in English language learning, emphasizing its influence on learners’ engagement, persistence, and ultimate proficiency (Masgoret & Gardner, 2003). By examining theoretical
perspectives, empirical findings, and pedagogical strategies, this work highlights how intrinsic and extrinsic motivations shape the language acquisition journey and determine both the quality and sustainability of learning outcomes (Ryan & Deci,
2020).
